For anyone who’s been wondering why I “blog” through Facebook notes; well I don’t. I’ve set the Notes application to automatically grab new entries from the RSS feed of my actual blog at http://isamu.urithium.net/. It parses it into a convenient note directly readable from Facebook, I recommend visiting the real site as it tends to screw up the formatting.

Simply one of the most beautiful songs ever. I used to think most songs had harmony within them, but this made itself the new benchmark. The song’s tune is modest, humble and perfectly, PERFECTLY complements the near divine lyrics. I’d like to point out that their music video is based off my favorite scene in the only movie Jim Carrey wasn’t an obnoxious moron in –Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Rather than talking about what the song means to me which weirdly changes depending on my mood, you think about it.

For convenience, I’ve included the lyrics below. Enjoy.

Stars – Your Ex-lover is Dead

God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said ‘yes I think we’ve met before’
In that instant it started to pour,
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across Pont Champlain
And all of the time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name…
This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin

Tried to reach deep but you couldn’t get in
Now you’re outside me
You see all the beauty
Repent all your sin

It’s nothing but time and a face that you lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn’t choose
I’ll write you a postcard
I’ll send you the news
From a house down the road from real love…

Live through this, and you won’t look back…
Live through this, and you won’t look back…
Live through this, and you won’t look back…

There’s one thing I want to say, so I’ll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I’m not sorry I met you
I’m not sorry it’s over
I’m not sorry there’s nothing to save

I’m not sorry there’s nothing to save…

I’ve rekindled something very special tonight.. after a hiatus stretching a few months or more I’ve finally revisited and actually updated my.. yes, my Friendster profile.

I miss getting testimonials.

Friendster boomed early into Web 2.0 and it was great. You know the drill: make a profile, upload pictures, update information about yourself ..and more importantly.. leave notes of appreciation or…dissatisfaction on other people’s pages.

There’s a big difference between comments and testimonials. A comment is like a bottle of beer; great for the moment until you put it down, let some minutes fly by and it goes flat. A testimonial on the other hand is like fine wine; take little sips, let time age you both and when you finally come back for more, it tastes even better. Sincerity is that ingredient that can sharpen a sword or soften a cushion.

These days comments are your random sparks of opinion on current matters –which, against the nature of sites like Facebook, doesn’t last very long to be seen or heard from again. More importantly they are less desired to be reviewed at a later time, as opposed to testimonials which give you a good lapse back.

I’ll always remember…

I don’t question why Friendster still exists, it still works for a lot of people after all. In the end, it’s the best time capsule I’ve ever had.

Today while I was browsing Facebook mobile I remembered that it had a Phonebook feature which lists numbers of my friends who filled that detail out in their profile. Additionally, whenever I would browse on the phone I would occassionally get a top story of <someone> changed his/her phone number, it has been added to your phonebook., so immediately I thought to myself if there existed software that could synchronize my Facebook contacts’ phone numbers to Outlook. This is extreme handy as nearly everyone in the Philippines is on a prepaid number so people tend to change numbers often and I’m assuming that when they do, they also update their Facebook contact information.

I was… not exactly in luck.. there’s an application called Fonebook – http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2442338999&b&ref=pd that lets you transfer photos, web addresses and birthdays, but due to Facebook “privacy restrictions”, I don’t think they support phone numbers in the developer API. Further research told me there existed programs that used to export phone numbers (unfortunately not sync them to Outlook) and were eventually blocked by Facebook.

Sad, but I wasn’t left empty handed. Fonebook still came in very handy, I have a Nokia phone that syncs with Outlook which downloaded the pictures and other information Fonebook retrieved.

Fonebook is about 5MB in size, there’s another program called OutSync that only synchronizes photos, you can download it at http://www.melsam.com/outsync/default.aspx.

If you know any program that does my original intention, please leave a comment!
